Hi all. Just want to preface that I am like all these new Millenials… I am “efficient” aka lazy. I used to be a very hard worker, but I think years of being a perfectionist and trying hard every single day burnt me out. I know the world doesnt owe anything to me. Anyways, about 1.5 months ago I started feeling fed up with my boss since he started to target me and many others were being insobordinate with no consequence. It is to note I am also the member with the most seniority not being the Manager with 1.75 years with the company. So because of this, I decided to apply to a govt position, something I always thought I wanted, I always wanted a pension of sorts because these days we arent guaranteed a full social security pension, if at all anything. Turns out I was one that barely made the cut but they were taking a lot of people. Now i am getting cold feet. I dont think I want this change, I like working by myself but am very conflicted as this job might be my end goal but why dont I want to take it? My current job, doesnt have much work, its mostly visual; the govt job is the similar but there is more responsibility obviously and I will not be alone, it is an important job, therefore a crew is available. It is to note that this job follows the 4-5 day work week, whereas my current one is 7 on days 7 off and then 7 on nights and the 7 days off. It provides a lot of freedom and time to travel something I do enjoy. I also work 9/14 days solo. As an ex extrovert, I am now 2/3 introverted and 1/3 extroverted.  My personality type is ISFP-T, traits which include being introverted and adventurous. My current job there is room for innovation while the govt job seems, straightforward and routinelike. I am a standstill cuz if this is my goal, why dont I want it anymore? It is just weird. Thank you for listening and any input is appreciated, thank you.

Moreover I feel like I am a failure for making the incorrect or logical decision. And I always procrastinate these type of things, making a PRO and CON list I always avoid. So i know I have to face the facts but am I really making the right choice? My heart wants easy but right now, I dont have a partner and am putting myself out there. I feel like if this oppurtunity came in 3 years then it would be fine. I would take it. Right now, I feel like its too soon. Like if I was settled and in 3 years it would be a for sure thing. But would this opportunity ever arise in the area anytime soon? I feel like my greed is what made me apply, cuz of one shortcoming at work.. Just tough life decision for real… Sigh

Why do we fear change? I got so used to this lifestyle, although the schedule of 7 on days 7 off and then 7 on nights and the 7 days off is not good for ones health. I know this job like the back of my hand and I really enjoy it because it deals with more innovative and interesting chemicals and the other deals with more bacteria and its straight forward. Ugh, why…. the govt job gives u a life lon pension. I would only have to work a month extra for 20 years if that to achieve that

    Hi Alecsee

So you’ve been offered a job and you’re unsure about whether to take it or not.

You’ve been feeling hurt by the way your boss and others have been behaving at your current job. Is this behaviour likely to continue? You enjoy the work itself and having a schedule that gives you flexibility. At the same time, you recognize that this schedule can be a bit unhealthy.

The new job, you’re concerned it’s going to be not as interesting, potentially even boring. And you don’t like the idea of losing your freedom to travel.

I wonder though, do the number of vacation days increase at the new job depending on how many years you work there?

The new job provides a great pension which is tempting. Is there a difference in pay between the two roles?

You mentioned feeling nervous about change. That makes sense, there are a lot of unknowns with the new job. You don’t know how management will be, how the coworkers will be. Which is basically the main reason you even entertained the idea of looking for a new job in the first place.

My question is on your resume/cv is this job a step up career wise? Because if things are not suitable at the new place you might look for another job again.

If things are good at the new job, then really the only downside is not having as much freedom to travel.

I’d love to hear your more of thoughts. The only person who can really make this decision is you.

Wishing you all the best! 🙏

Yes. Mostly boss and client, because right now we are offline, people have less to do and have their eyes open more and will pinpoint more including my boss since he under supervision a bit these days.

Yeah I like it cuz its flexible and relatively chill and slower paced with more monitoring more than anything and the computers do most of the work. I dont eat well cuz im gone days at a time and my sleep schedule goes from night to day shift and back to day with a week break in between. That cant be good for the body long term.

Yes I am worried about the boredom and freedom lost. I know it seems very lazy but thats who im currently am. I still need to ask about Vacation and how frequently we can take it.

This is a step career wise but I feel like this is job u take years down the road when u have a family and need stability. I dont want to look for another job, I want the next or current job I have to be my last.

I have tried giving it some thought and I wonder if the childish arrogance in me is being pessimistic. I also leave for a trip, which idk if the new job is cool with altho Ive stated twice I was taking. Would be 2.5, almost the same amount of time I would ask to renounce my current job. I just feel nervous. I just hope this trip can provide more guidance as to the type of life I can be. I feel like I cant do a job more than 3 years without changing. Idk how much currently this job would entertain or be beneficial to me but yeah I only see myself max 2-3 doing this. I wanted to work up to the job I applied for but like I said its bacteria not that much chemistry and its super simplistic while this job altho ez, sometimes can be really easy and I like it about it and I enjoy it cuz its easy. I have to like what Im doing, Thanks for listening Hellcat!

RIght now I would probably get a 3 dollar raise but the ceiling looks to only 7 dollars more from the start.

I am abeing promised an end of year raise to make the difference of wages just a 1 dollar and change, we can call it 1.50
