Stop trying to prove to others that you are good enoug
That you are worthy of their time
    Their admiration
    Their respect
    Stop it, stop it now!

    Give up.
    Let go.
    Don’t give a s*^%

Why the hell is your life about those who point fingers at you?
Whack, whack those fingers one by one with a mental hatchet

Take that stamp OKAY and stamp it on your person, done!
You are now approved, you’ve been okayed

Stop it, stop it, stop trying to please, to appease
Stop begging for that frown looking at you to turn into a smile
Stop it, stop it, stop it!

    Dear Jack:

Oh, the finger pointing at me predates you by decades! You do pay attention, though. I like it. Was it really 38 degrees Celsius for you yesterday? That is very hot!

    Dear who:

Thank you. Making you/ anyone think is more than I hope for. It is a great compliment.

    Dear Hayley-Louise:

Tell me more about your struggle. More about what you are trying to stop and what makes it difficult for you to stop it?

i will check in a few hours and will be glad to respond then:

I suppose just negative comments and things people say maybe in anger or off the cuff.

How are you meant just to just let it go or forget things like that easily? Maybe I’ve misinterpreted the post, but myself personally, it take a good couple days to ‘shake’ stuff off…

Anita, wow! Great poem. Love it, and I have to say, there are many of us of who have to “Stop it”.

Hayley-Louise, “myself personally, it takes a good couple days to ‘shake’ stuff off…” I couldn’t agree more. Negative comments and encounters often stay in my mind for a good while. I then spend some time analyzing what I did wrong or what actually happened to produce such an outcome. It certainly is hard to stop it most of the time, especially since like Anita said, “Stop trying to prove to others that you are good enough” and “Why the hell is your life about those who point fingers at you?” Because it is true, we often try to please those who like us least, and we seek their approval.

re shaking things off (a very apt expression by the way)
this is something I relate to, absolutely.
I think I am prone to oversensitivity. I’d like to think I have an artistic streak, 🙂
but the reality is I am likely to react to things internally,(not show to others) that other people simply ignore.
Isn’t there a blog on OSP? Oversensitive People?

    Dear Hayley Louise:

You asked: “How are you meant just to just let it (negative comments people make in anger) go or forget things like that easily?”

If you live with or are in regular contact with a person or persons who make negative comments about you, are angry at you again and again and negatively critical of you, then you should not let it go, you should let THEM go, get out of their lives or have them get out of your life. Lots of people don’t get that, they STAY with people who keep attacking them with criticism and try to not be affected. No, no, no. LEAVE or have them leave. This is what I meant by stopping it.

Dear Aislynn: thank you, just wrote to you on your thread.

    Dear OSP Jack:

Another title for Jack, a man of many titles. Lost count but would like to keep record. Prone to oversensitivity. I noticed lately how you easily catch people’s arrogance, quickly. You get it. You sense things and you are good at it.
