I’m really lacking a creative outlet in life. I spend all my time studying and analyzing things. I do meditate, do yoga and take walks, but my life feels like it’s so rigid and uninspired. Once upon a time I had a bunch of free spirited, creative friends and lived in California, where people kind of tend to that type of living. I would say that it really took me into a new sphere of living. Maybe it was just because I was in my mid-20’s and discovering new things, but I used to grow things, knit, crochet, have artsy drawing parties, play games. Things I really do love because I do have a youthful spirit. And I love how it opens up your mind to see your life in new way.
Now I have no creative friends (that I know of) who live around me. I feel a strong urge to make something – music, art, whatever, but I don’t know where to start. Can someone recommend exercises or a book or website or anything that might help me to do this, or to at least get on a path to living with more free-spiritedness?
FYI: I’m very detail oriented, sometimes on the border of OCD, so I think this would really help me. Also, I’m kind of ADD and pick up lots of projects at once but have a hard time seeing them through to completion. 🙂
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried looking for a class to take? I don’t know if there is like a community college, or Art-promoting organization in your community that gives classes, but you might look into that. Maybe a local book store has an open-mic night, and you can ask some of the poets how they got started/if they have some group going on you don’t know about.
Also, these crazy “Wine & Paint” parties that are becoming pretty popular.
Just some thoughts. Good Luck!

Dig out your knitting if you still have the stuff and cast on. Don’t knit anything special, just knit. If you’ve forgotten there’s vids on line and most yarn shops will teach you basics when you buy their yarn.
Creative acts beget creative acts. So even if you just doodle a bit, or bake cookies, or whatever, it will get you there.
I am kind of in the same boat….I’ve been baking and knitting a bit, and DH got me a violin for Xmas and so I am learning that.
Just pick somthing small and do it. Draw a leaf you pick up in the garden.
Do, no try there is.

That means, go to places that you consider sacred or places that trigger happy responses. Laugh. Whatever you do, be spontaneous and childlike. Do whatever speaks to your most instant or deepest desires – just go for it!
Also, get a pinterest account 🙂
I hope this is helpful to you. Best wishes x
