Had been working on emotional intelligence, etc., then got overwhelmed with work stuff. Wondering if it’s a comfort-zone thing, or what.
December 9, 2016 at 12:21 am #122327Nina SakuraParticipantWell emotional intelligence takes time -one doesn’t unlearn old responses and habits built up over years in few moments just by reading books or seeing videos.
What helps most though is concentration and deattachment – to be present where you are and also be able to shift your focus away when really required…so for instance when you are eating dinner for even 20 minutes with someone, really just be thinking of the dinner and the moment. You aren’t in court room anymore for those 20 minutes. Do not worry about any calls. Just be there, really there. Allow yourself that form of relaxation for few times a week. To really space out and rest without the sleep. That takes emotional regulation, a part of emotional intelligence.
There are other things that too like relationships, own interests, other goals. Your job doesn’t represent all the type of people in the world or every situation – a set of bad situations no doubt but not the entire thing.
And yes everyone slips up here but patience is like a muscle, it requires regular training.

My view is that emotional intelligence helps us with work stuff. At work, you should concentrate on work stuff and hopefully the emotional intelligence aspect becomes a default setting. At home practice your practice, but then know how (and when!) to stop and do something else. Or nothing else!

If by “day-to-day stuff” you are referring to endless paper work but no interaction with people, online or in person, then there is no opportunity to promote your Emotional Intelligence (EI). Continue to use opportunities where you do interact with people, online and in person, at work and elsewhere, so to promote your EI, that is to understand and use your emotions to increase the overall intelligence it takes for you to experience more and more well being (my definition of EI).

Was supposed to try two cases in the upcoming two weeks: one a fairly simple theft collection, the other a nasty collection of personal crime things set during the week before Christmas. I just tried a case earlier this week. At least the other two are not “goes”.
Also, just something about the “holiday” season that makes me want to hibernate or something. Not very good with the whole “forced happiness” thing around the season. Find it really hard to be around folks this time of year.

Just had a laugh (still smiling) reading your rock imagery on the other thread. I am glad living outside the (small) city limit where I live, off a private road, and having no TV service! What a relief! I don’t mind the glittery, sparkly lights though. I like those! And I don’t mind the Christmas trees either, or the colors.
But if I had to endure people smiling at me with good holiday wishes to which I would have to respond accordingly, with a smile, again and again, and being asked how I will celebrate and what will I do for Christmas- that would be tough.
