Wow, Manolo, my heart REALLY goes out to you on this one. Like you, I’m a pretty peaceful person and a considerate neighbor – and if there is one thing that does me in, it’s listening to neighbors’ loud noise (I, myself, go to bed by 10:00pm, so any loud noise after that is very upsetting to me). Check your lease for a section on “quiet hours” – I’m sure they must be stated in there somewhere – your neighbor is, undoubtedly, in violation of the rules on noise. I had this problem with a young woman living above me just a few months back. I went to her apartment to speak to her about it, but she wouldn’t answer her door (I knew she was home because I’d heard her stomping around up there). So I emailed my complaints to the property management people here and they addressed it with her. I was told if she continued, I’d have to call the police while she was doing it. Luckily for me, she broke her lease and moved out after a few months.
Since you live in a condo complex, there must be some type of management company there – I’d speak to them first. Otherwise, I think you’ll have to call the cops.
I will pray for you on this – it’s horrible when you can’t enjoy your own home…

    Good Morning!

Talk to the landlord. She can say that several people on the floor have complained. Or that there have been complaints.

If you run into him in the hall, tell him. He will probably be embarrassed in real life. Invite him over. Become buddies.

    Or leave a note.

Invest in heavy tapestries for over the walls and rugs to help absorb sound. Also, white noise machines/apps/CDs.

Or, beat him to the punch and crank up soothing/inspiring classical music before he comes home so he has to listen to that. When you turn it off, it will be midnight and he’s probably not going to crank heavy rock after The Best of Beethoven.

    Good Luck!
