The Winners:
To celebrate the holiday season, I’ve decided to do a series of giveaways for my book, Tiny Buddha: Simple Wisdom for Life’s Hard Questions, which launched right around this time last year.
If you’ve already learned about the book or purchased it, this post will be redundant for you! For those who haven’t read it, here’s a little information about it:
This is the first book of its kind—with tweets woven throughout.
I asked @tinybuddha followers a number of the most challenging questions in life, like:
- Why is there suffering in the world?
- What’s the meaning of life?
- What does it take to be happy?
- Why are relationships hard?
Since there are very few concrete answers to the big questions, I wanted to explore many varied perspectives to create a guide of possibilities for joy, purpose, and connection.
Although these tweets shaped the book, I also included a great deal of my own struggles, successes, and insights—far more than I’ve ever revealed on the blog. From my former battle with depression to my struggles with relationships, I shared how these questions have played out in my own life—and what I’ve learned at each step of the way.
Through this book, you’ll learn a few ideas to:
- Let go of pain from the past that’s been weighing you down and holding you back
- Create a sense of purpose, starting right now, even if you’re not doing what you want to do professionally
- Change habits that have not served you well and open up to new, better ways of being
- Experience happiness right now, regardless of your circumstances
- Improve your relationships
- Seize the moment to live more mindfully, passionately, and fearlessly
- Find a sense of control and empowerment in an uncertain world
I will do 4 giveaways this month, 1 per week. I will choose 2 winners for each giveaway and mail all of 8 books together at the end of the month.

Today is Dec 21st, supposed doomsday… My maid’s daughter, an innocent, sweet, simple girl, who adores me and holds me in high regard, came running to me this morning, held my hand tight and whispered, “Sister, is the world gonna end today? Please do something to stop it!”
I broke into a huge grin!!! Her simple attitude and love and trust in me made my day! What made you smile today? 🙂
My dog cuddling up with me after the morning alarm making it so I didn’t want to crawl out of bed for work.
I didn’t even realize that today was ‘the’ 21st of December till my friend mentioned it; the day seemed to be going soooo normally and in a routine way. It’s afternoon now and the world is still intact! It’s not gonna end….. v all knew that!
I would love to win this book and share with the people in my life
I’m watching my parents dog Gracie the next two weeks. Our own dog prefers my husband over me – so I was excited this morning when Gracie ran to me and couldn’t wait for me to hold and pet her! I love my own dog but will take pleasure in caring for my little buddy Gracie while she is with us!
I smiled today for waking up with my dogs and husband, cozy in my bed 🙂
The sun is out today after 3 gloomy days and that made me really happy, especially since I’m going through the flu and a sinus infection at the same time. I’m so grateful to my husband and kids who are taking care of me right now. Thanks for all the inspirational blog posts.
My kitty. She’s just so cute and I love spending moments petting her before work everyday 🙂
I had to go back to my college where I did my undergraduate studies, for some paperwork. It has been nearly 8 years since I graduated. I have followed some of the dreams that I had then, lost some and dreamed more. But, what really struck me about the place is how much I loved it…. As I moved through long forgotten corridors almost seeing me and my friends there, bumped into office staff who didn’t remember my name but were happy to see a familiar face, classrooms where I spent time staring out of the window and so many of my favorite trees, I was amazed and happy to have lived through this experience. When, I walked through this place that defined my existence at some point in time,it didn’t matter how things turned out. I’m just glad they happened….
I’m smiling today because it is the end of the world day, and all is well…
The chance to get this book for free just makes me smile today
Lori – thank you for your wisdom – I appreciate your daily blog and recently purchased your book for my brother. He really needs your help!! Happy Holidays.
Waking up to pictures of my adorable niece!
Struggled this morning to get it together, came in to work and just took an interest in others. Listened to stories about their surgeries, their children, their lives. And for just long enough, I forgot about me. I joined the river of life instead of watching it from the banks. Found myself content!!!
Paying off Kmart layaways for families who were at risk of being canceled
Smiles ear to ear, knowing I’ve sent my Sweetie several text messages today that will make HIM smile.
I went to my parents home (91 & 87)and had a cup of coffee with them. Also smiled hearing that my hubby is feeling better from his recent surgery more everyday!
I am grinning from ear to ear!
“Be grateful. Then be grateful some more.” 🙂
The joy (and stress) of getting a dog for the first time. We just adopted a 1 1/2 yr old lab and though I am apprehensive (first time dog owner…) I am hopeful and excited to watch our relationship grow 🙂
Having found my life partner at 48 years (young!) after decades of an unhappy marriage, I am grateful and smile for each perfect day.
That is so cool!
Always being greatful for what I have and trying to help others makes me smile. I’m so Lucky to have a great job and try to pay it forward.
Very creative and fun!
Martha’s post about paying off WalMart layaways helped me smile with joy! What an interesting thing to do.
Also, thank you for all you do at Tiny Buddha! I enjoy getting the emails.
Having the sun shine again today.
Yesterday I was at the VA clinic for routine care, and got snotty with the first person I encountered, and then the second. I smiled when leaving the clinic as I had gone back to apologize to person two and not person one. My mind goes on defense easily and often “wins” when it interferes with acts of Compassion and the Golden Rule. The ability to smile lets me know I’m paying attention, at least part of the time.
Today my son came up to me (knowing we are going to his grame’s for Christmas tonight) he had all his toys, pillow and blanket stuffed into his backpack and told me “ok mommy, I’m ready lets go!” I explained to him that mommy had to finish working(I work from home) and then we would go. He went and got his Leapster laptop and opened it turned it on and said “okay mommy I help you finish work then we leave!” He is so willing and eager to help it warms my heart and puts a HUGE smile on my face!
My paycheck was higher than usual. I checked with HR to make sure it wasn’t a mistake and found out that I had gotten a raise!
my daughter, who has been having trouble with anxiety to the point she missed most of her high school classes, went to school today to take a test. it makes me happy to see her do something a normal teen would be doing.
My friend’s birthday is today, and I secretly bought him baklava (his favorite dessert). I can’t wait to give it to him! 🙂
My four year old son is very into making “books” which consist of pieces of paper stapled together like a book. He then writes half legible words on them and draws pictures on each page. This morning he drew a picture of a “statue” on a page in one of his “books.” He then turned to me with a goofy grin on his face and said, “see my face…this is the face my statue is making. Can’t you see that?.” I don’t know why put he cracked me up and we just laughed together about it. I have laughed several times today about it.
well, i just got up this morning. but my boyfriend rolled over to give me a kiss, and proceeded to snuggle into my pillow and keep snoozin’. that made me smile, for sure. 🙂
Today the sun is shining and I am feeling lighter and brighter after donating a bunch of food to the local shelters:)
watching 5 teenage girls in a secure residential facility paint butterflies, hearts, and flowers, cooperating, encouraging each other, and being kind to one another while christmas music played in the background ….
my smile today was the gift of reconnecting with an old friend. It’s not that we had lost touch or weren’t communicating; it’s that we weren’t “connecting.” There was tension between us since a vacation we shared a few years ago that was marred by bickering — but today we both realized that in each other we not only shared great friendship but also terrific traveling companions. All that was needed was a little compromise — me because I can’t get enough museums & cultural offerings when i travel and her because she can’t get enough of the best restaurants. We ended up talking about a trip to Turkey in the spring. Smiles all around!
my smile was hearing my mother wake up to see another day
Joan Rivers who said that b/c she is Jewish they can open their Christmas presents anytime, made me smile today.
Patients at my office bringing me homemade Christmas gifts. How sweet it is to be thought of like that =D
Today I received a letter from a friend that was so sweet it made me cry!
I smiled when someone I love surprised me and came to take me to lunch. It reminds me that even on days when I complain about having to do the “have-to’s”, you never know what the day can bring, and it can be beautiful!
I told a joke that made a friend who was feeling down laugh.
Today I left my housemates of 3 years and let go of my ex (unconnected except by the coincidence of happening on the same day). What made me smile was my acceptance of these things and that I felt good that it was me looking forward and not back and I felt like I’d come a long way in letting go.
Seeing the sun shine and snow fall from the sky at the same time made me smile.
My friend gave me a gift today – a fridge magnet. Oh, what a gift – gave me the hugest belly laugh 🙂
My first smile of the day came when my oldest daughter, now a freshman 10 hours away at school in Montana, walked into my office. Home for the holidays.
What made me smile today is my 3 year old son. We’ve had a hard year. But, i am so grateful for him being happy and excited for Christmas and this Christmas will be his best so far..
I really enjoy the posts on FB, so I’ll definitely have to put the book on my Christmas list.
Today there was a tin of cookies leaning against our garage door it was from a neighbor who we helped. She wrote in the attached card: “You are “the amazing kind of people who always give that uncalled for, illogical act of kindness.”
My good friend got engaged 🙂
My smile today was from finishing the gifts for my little niece whom I haven’t seen in a year and a half. I can’t wait to see her open them on Monday! 🙂
