The winners:

Last week, Shambhala Publications contacted me to let me know about their upcoming retreat with Pema Chödrön, Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change.

An ordained Buddhist nun, Pema is best known for her many books and courses on meditation and Tibetan Buddhism, including When Things Fall Apart and The Fearless Heart: The Practice of Living with Courage and Compassion.

Her upcoming three-day retreat will take place at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York—but you don’t need to travel to participate. You can take part from the comfort of your home by accessing the retreat virtually.

During this event, Pema will address the questions:

  • How do we work skillfully with rough times?
  • How do we transform our lives during times of upheaval and unpredictability?
  • How do we broaden our tolerance for uneasiness?

When we’re going through a challenging period, Pema teaches, we all need to find ways to tap into our inherent strength and courage. When we access that brave heart within, answers to those hard questions arise on their own quite naturally.

Pema Chödrön’s message during this weekend retreat is as simple as it is bold: We can do it! And we can all do it beautifully.

The online retreat includes:

  • Full access to the three-day event in real time via live webcast
  • Post-event access to the on-demand video with streaming video playback until December 31, 2011

The event costs $85.00, but you can get $20 off using the discount code LBTB11—or you can enter to win one of three free tickets here!

The past few months of my life have been full of change:  heartbreaking separation from my partner whom I truly believed (and maybe still do…) was my soul mate, selling my beloved house of 14 years, taking a leave from my business because I felt like I couldn’t be present or move forward.  A few weeks ago, I felt like I had hit bottom — and there was not going to be a way to get out.

Pema helped me… through reading her books, seeing her face on videos and carrying it around in my heart, and practicing, practicing, practicing each day, I have found peace with it all and appreciation for life — most of the time….

I look forward to feeling her divine presence through this workshop.  Thanks.

I recommend Pema on a regular basis and it is one of my life goals to work with her -I know her time is limited so this would be an amazing opportunity. I go back to her time and time again.

I have all of Pema’s books sitting next to my best reading chair, except for “Comfortable with Uncertainty” – which I carry around with me everywhere I go.  The past 2 years have been loaded with change and uncertain times and many days, these books, along with Tiny Buddha, and teachings from Tara Brach have given me that last bit of strength to hang on when I honestly thought I couldn’t anymore.  I have been hearing about this retreat for a while and hoping for the means to participate 🙂

I live in rural Montana and it is truly difficult to find retreats available in my area.  Online retreats are a wonderful way for me to continue to receive the Dharma, however the cost is often prohibitive for our struggling family.  I read/listen to all that I can find that is free, but would truly love to win “admission” to this online retreat.  Many blessings to all…

Alexis Francisco

Pema Chodron’s “Comfortable with Uncertainty” saved my life. I dont know if I would be here today had her words not reached me at that time. I would love to take part in this online retreat.

Sruettiger

I think this would help me more than anything !!!! This is exactly what I am hoping for in my life right now !

Lauren Towers

I love Pema Chodron’s work “Comfortable with Uncertainty”, it got me through some difficult times! <3

Change happens at a dizzying pace these days and the uncertainty of our world today is grippingly overwhelming. Pema puts it all in perspective. She has helped me grow closer to my Mom (who lives on the opposite coast from me) who is also such a fan of hers.

What an amazing opportunity to connect with Pema Chodron.

Lindsey

Pema’s books are AMAZING! They have changed my life. It would be so amazing to go to that retreat!!!

samirah

I would love to attend this event.  The last two years have been extremely difficult for me, the lowest points taking me through drug addiction and unhealthy relationships.  Learning about Pema’s teachings, and reading them has helped me immensely, and I know that I still have a long way to go.

Pema is a guiding light

Change is something I used to embrace. I saw it as a chance to grow, learn, and stretch my comfort zone a little more.  Recently, however, I have noticed that the older I get, change becomes something that’s increasingly scary.  I take less risks and push myself a little less because of this — and, as a result, my life has become pretty mundane.  I want my old self back!  Maybe this seminar is just what I need.  What is it they say? – when the student is ready, the teacher will appear!

barefootwendy

it is a beautiful day. occupy the moment. occupy your heart.

It took a cancer diagnosis for me to realise I wasnt living my life.Grateful for having recovered I bought a pony for my daughter and I to share -we had a wonderful two and a half years but he didnt recover from an injury.More change when my marriage collapsed and I left a year ago.Feeling like I couldnt possibly “lose” anything else I agreed the vet should put our beloved cat to sleep on Monday. My faith has sustained me during these time but a boost of Pema would be fantastic!!

I first discovered the teachings of Pema Chodron several years ago.  I was moved by her story.  To have everything one had once known and loved come crashing down and then make the transformation to ensure that it would never happen again is very inspiring.  There are always going to be things in our lives that will result in us getting hooked by our emotions.  With a calm mind and reason in tow, one has an obligation to oneself to maintain peace within no matter what is happening within the scope of their external environment.

Anastajah

I so appreciate this “virtual” sangha!! It helps me to feel more “real” and interconnected in the world wide web of life! 🙂 Pema’s book When Things Fall Apart has so much empathy, deep listening and care for-and transformation of- the suffering and stress we all share. If you need guidance during tough transitions, this book is a penultimate embassador midwife for change!! I’m truly happy that this re-treat is being offered! Thanks for letting me know about it!!! Xo

The online retreat is certainly a unique new concept to me, but I like the introductory video on the retreat’s website.  I like the fact that having such a retreat reminds each of us that we are fully able to choose to create space for ourselves anytime we want to.  By turning off our communication with the outside world, and taking time to go inwards, I am looking forward to a well needed opportunity to reflect, gain insight, and gain strength.  I have been constantly invited to events or told about Pema Chodron since I started doing yoga last year, and given the tumultuous year I have been having both professionally and personally, I am committing to learning from her.  Plus, with the change in seasons here in Toronto, the cold rainy weather certainly adds motivation to stay indoors for a weekend for a personal retreat.

Scott Stevens

Pema’s the closest thing I have to a spiritual guide. She has a way of reaching past the broken pieces to the unbreakable.  Her workshop would be a great joy, but so too is knowing that she still offers guidance for all our journeys.

Rocky Rupple

There is God’s work to be done and it’s especially important at a time like this. I want to learn how to open myself to greater involvement in the current change of tide this world is experiencing, with peace and love for all life.

Wendy Murphy

Would love to attend this retreat! She is so inspiring, and I really, really, really need it right now.

Rocky Rupple

For the love of God and of all living Life, I wish to expand myself and to be of greater good and use. I would greatly appreciate being allowed to ‘attend’ this retreat virtually, as I do not have any access to funds or transportation, only a fire in my heart under humble circumstances.

Amber Robinson

I love learning from Pema Chodron, and would love to win. Thank you for the opportunity.

Stephanie

This retreat sounds like an inspiring opportunity.  I really look forward to hearing her message.

Tara Scott

I have experienced extreme changes over the past year and think this would be wonderful.  A 10 year relationship ending, a new wonderful love beginning, work changes, house changes…everything.

Pema’s book ‘When Things Fall Apart’ really and truly helped me.  I would love to attend this.

Tara Scott

Hi, Bounce…our stories sound very similar.  I wish you the best of everything moving forward.

Nanlaz

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.  The timing is perfect for me, as almost every aspect of my life seems uncertain at the moment!  I’d be honored to attend this virtual workshop.

Stef

I absolutely love here and would be thrilled if I could attend her online retreat 🙂

Campbell

Love PC!

Wow, this is going to be an amazing event. A lot and exactly what I want to learn & where I want to be on my spiritual path.

Life is all about change, the way we perceive it, and how we adapt to it. This sounds like an incredible experience.
