Happy Tuesday friends! As you may already know from reading my recent posts, today is the day of my myomectomy surgery.
I decided not to publish a guest post today, since I will not be around to share it on the Tiny Buddha social media pages, moderate comments, or respond to emails. Instead, I decided to re-publish a post from 2010 that you may not have read, called 50 Things to Love About Life That Are Free. I hope you enjoy it!
I will be in the hospital until Thursday or Friday, though I will likely be working toward the end of the week. In the meantime, I would appreciate if you would do something for me:
Is there something that always makes you smile–an uplifting video, a funny picture, or a joke? I would love it if you would share it in the comments section so I can see them all after my operation.
If you don’t have anything specific to share, and you’ve never commented before, it would be great if you’d introduce yourself and share something that you’re passionate about. Meeting new people is my favorite part of running this site, and I’d love to connect with you!
If you’re reading this in your inbox, you may want to click here to comment on the site. Please note you might not receive an email on Wednesday or Thursday this week–and that I may be slow to respond to any emails that come to me.
Thank you again for all your love and support. It means the world to me, and it’s helped.
APRIL 12TH UPDATE: I came home from the hospital today and spent some time reading all your comments/visiting all your links. Thank you so much everyone! I’m touched that you all took the time to do this. When I’m feeling a little better, I will respond to some of these. Thank you again so much. 🙂

Hi Lori,
This is Harish form the UAE. Wish you the best for your operation and hope you recover soon.
I discovered TINY BUDDHA during random browsing during a sleepless night and am glad I did .
Most of the articles posted here offer me one thing which I endeavour to acquire -CLARITY OF THOUGHT- beacuse I have come to believe that CLARITY in your mind and thoughts leads you to to connect with you “REAL SELF” .
Gratitude and Best Wishes!!!
Feel better..and enjoy this awesome story and video:
At age 108, Holocaust survivor Alice Herz Sommer still practices piano for 3 hours every day. At age 104, she had a book written about her life: “A Garden Of Eden In Hell.” At age 83, she had cancer. Alice survived the concentration camps through her music, her optimism and her gratitude for the small things that came her way – a smile, a kind word, the sun. When asked about the secret of her longevity, Alice says: “I look where it is good.”

Also, here is another great video:
Charlie Chaplin’s voice …Some call it the greatest speech ever made. This remix puts Charlie Chaplin’s climactic address from “The Great Dictator” (1940) into present-day context, showing how the spirit of liberty, brotherhood, and equality that defeated fascism seven decades ago must be urgently reclaimed.:

…
And some reading we should all do whether we are recovery in the hospital or not, we all need to build some “muscular empathy” 🙂

Wishing you a speedy recovery … 🙂

Hello! I found your blog through StumbleUpon a few weeks ago, and it is now a part of my daily routine. I am thankful for the wisdom of yourself and others. This site is one of the many pieces keeping me going. I’ve also found that the articles published daily mirror my own process, something I find beautiful and that reminds me that I must keep going no matter what. Thank you for creating something so wonderful and therapeutic 🙂 Wishing you Love and Light as you undergo the procedure and begin healing. Remember to take it slow for a bit (I wouldn’t mind doing that myself)!
Here is a song you might like. It is ‘Aurora’ by Chari Chari and I find it most wonderful 🙂

Hi,
I’m a foreign language teacher and I really like to get in contact with new cultures. I hope where you live it’s customary to visit a person that had a surgery 🙂
One thing that always gives me some optimitic fluids are songs from animated movies. Some of the are really fun. I’ll share two 😀
1 – “Tu corazón” Spanish version of “True to your heart” from Mulan. I know no Spanish but this is more upbeat than the original version somehow 😀
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChgoAaqBWJA
2 – a clip from Easter Wonderland 2012 Parade in Disneyland in Tokyo. I used it during one of my Easter Japanese classes, it was an instant hit. All the grown-up guys squealed like lil’ girls 🙂

I hope all goes well for you this week. http://bayanjargal.com/post/5215831600/yamar-huurhen-um-be This is the pic that makes me happy.
Hello! São Paulo has today a bright Autumn-sun shining. Hope you are doing good through your surgery… Your openness and sincerity gave me the courage to write, so… here I am!
I have just been through a 8-hour pancreas surgery – I got off the hospital on march 27th after a six-day stay and since then I have been through my slow recovery process.
I wish to tell you that the pain and the suffering taught me a lot about myself; it made me understand that I was faking good, trying to be optimistic and to find heaven when all I could see was darkness. I discovered it was something like a lack of honesty and integrity, that it was a positive reaction to things that happened around me.
I could argue: but, if it is positive, why is it not good? My answer is, first, because it was only a reaction, and second, at times, I was not totally honest with what I was feeling about the situation. Sometimes I would paint pink what was clearly gray. Not that pink and gray are colors that can be defined as good or bad… anyway…
At this moment I am, thus, trying to write as I feel, not minding if it is right or wrong, if it will please people or not, letting the words flow through my mind directly to my hands. It has been an intense activity trying not to react and – sincerely – I thank the whole process of my surgery for making me see thing from this new viewpoint!
Hari Om, dear Tinny Buddha!

p.s.: I love italian music – this is an online radio I listen to often. Hope you’ll like it!

There are an infinate amount of things that make me smile and happy, starting with myself and who I am. Outside myself, geniune and happy people make me smile. Seeing someone really enjoy what they do no matter what it is. Playing music, writing, drawing, running or even meditating. Look around and you can see who is geniunly happy about what they’re doing at any point.
Lori, stay strong, keep your head up and have a healthy recovery.
And to all,
Strive on untiringly

Hi, Lori! I’ve been reading for about two years now. The content has never become stale or repetitive even after all that time, and I really appreciate the message and information you provide daily. I’m definitely thinking of you this week.
Hey, did you hear about the illiterate sailor? He was lost at C.
hello, Lori! I am new to posting but I’ve been a fan of your blog, and a subscriber, for quite a long time thanks to a link from a friend. I find myself nodding and saying to myself “YES! that makes so much sense!” and “thank you” as I read tinybuddha, and I try to carry the things I learn into my life – and passing them on has brought me so much joy. The “how’d you know I needed this today?!” is a common response. I’ve often said out loud that the Universe is speaking directly to me when there is a particularly insightful topic posted… it’s eerie and wonderful. I appreciate you. I wish you a very speedy recovery and will leave you with this as it makes me smile every time! http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m482/jagaroo/surprise-cat.gif
You are in my prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery! A friend send me a link to your blog a few months ago and I can’t tell you how much I look forward to your posts. At least once a week there’s something that touches me deeply, or speaks to my greatest needs at that time. Thank you so much!
Will be in my prayers; hope you have a safe & speedy recovery as soon as possible DEDI…better get used to that name since you already gave me the approval to be seen as an older sis. to me the last time I wrote here…:-)
P.S. This is one of the most inspiring & humbling videos for me:-

God grant me a vacation to make bearable what I can’t change. A friend to make it funny and the wisdom to never get my knickers in a knot because it solves nothing and makes me walk funny.
i love your voice in your writing
Long time reader, first-time commenter. Here are two of my favorite short videos that I watch when I need a lift:

Thank you for this great space to share, Lori! I wish you well in your surgery. I send you blessings and love.
In my rhetoric class we discussed equality the other day. A fellow student posted this on the class wiki: http://chibird.tumblr.com/post/19211634104/some-things-are-universal-were-all-just-people
It brings a smile to my face! So, I thought it might bring you joy too. 🙂

Hi Lori,
I hope your surgery went well and that you recover soon!
Hmm I am not sure if this will be to your liking since humour is subjective, but here are some of the funny videos that I like from the anime Bleach.
Byakuya and Yachiru: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOdLNaolYmg
Byakuya is the stiff guy that the pink haired Yachiru loves to pester.
Yachiru the Pink Wonder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8LsP3a4gPI
Here is some background info on:
Byakuya: http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Byakuya_Kuchiki
Yachiru: http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Yachiru_Kusajishi
You could read the Bleach Manga in the link below if it interests you. I love it for the characters who are very memorable to me. I liked it so much that I read through all the comics from beginning to the current one in a few days.

As for what I am passionate about, well being INFJ and Aries, I love history. I also love to solve human problems through my study of change with the I-Ching. The reason I call myself the Vizier (minister/adviser to Sultans) is because the role of an adviser comes naturally to me.
Get well soon! 🙂

Lori: Good thoughts to you and a speedy recovery. It has been a joy to be a part of your journey in some small way.
Came across your blog a few days back in google+ find people list. I could immediately relate to many of the stories here. The wisdom here is simple and insightful. WIshing you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
One of my favourite scenes from a movie. It tells us to be in the moment amidst all the existential problems. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tz9vEZNxqA
Sending you all my love!!! You’re going to be just fine. 🙂
Something that always makes me smile is YouTubing videos of dachshund puppies…But that’s probably because I own two of them and they’re like my babies.

This is Hilarious!! 🙂 Wish I had a link instead of having to copy and paste, sorry!
Subject: “Only a guy would do this!”
“A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Taser for their
anniversary submitted this….””Last weekend at Larry’s Pistol and Pawn
Shop I was looking for something extra for my wife Toni. What I came
across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the
taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect
on the assailant. The idea is to allow my wife–who would never consider
a gun–adequate time to retreat to safety. WAY TOO COOL!
Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded
in two triple-a batteries and pushed the button. Nothing! I was
disappointed. But then I read (yes, ‘read’) that if I pushed the button
and pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I’d get a blue
arch of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs and I’d
know it was working.Awesome!!!(Actually, I have yet to explain to Toni
what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.)
Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that
it couldn’t be all that bad with only two triple-a batteries,
right?!!There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently
(trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking
that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh and blood moving
target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a
second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat.
But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself
against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as
advertised. Am I wrong? So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank
top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose,
directions in one hand, and taser in another. The directions said that a
one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second
burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily
control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop
on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three
seconds would be wasting the batteries.
So, I’m sitting alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one
side as to say, “don’t do it,” reasoning that a one-second burst from
such a tiny ole thing couldn’t hurt all that bad.I decided to give
myself a one-second burst just for the heck of it. I touched the prongs
to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, WEAPONS OF
MASS DESTRUCTION@@!@@$$!%!@@*!!!
I’m pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked
me up in the recliner, and body slammed us both on the carpet, over and
over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal
position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire,
testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in
the oddest position, and tingling in my legs.
You should know, if you ever feel compelled to “mug” yourself with a
taser, that there is no such thing as a one-second burst when you zap
yourself. You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from
your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor.
SON-OF-A..that hurt like hell!!! A minute or so later (I can’t be
sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected what
little wits I had left, sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent
reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. How did they get up
there???
My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My
face felt like it had been sot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip
weighed 88 lbs. I’m still looking for my testicles!!! I’m offering a
significant reward for their safe return.
Still in shock,
Earl”

Rest. Take care of yourself. Rest. I’m thinking of you and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
I’ve been reading your site for about a year now and your words and the words of your guests have helped me to change my attitude and deal with life and to begin living my life. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and insights.
I had a big change in my life last week, and although I didn’t handle it as well as I wanted to, I handled it a lot better than I would have a year ago. You gave me the tools and I’m learning how to use them through your words. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Now. Rest.
Get well soon, lady! I love getting the Tiny Buddha emails. They helped immensely when I was going through a difficult period in my life.
Wishes for a speedy and smooth recovery!
