About a year ago I stopped watching the news because of how depressing it was and how it effected my productivity and how it made me really sad. After I stopped my life became much better. But you can’t help but overhear conversation of what is going on around the world, for example, People telling me there could possibly be a huge war coming around and everything is lining up for that to happen. Then i start to wonder… Why am I trying to be happy and accomplish things in life if something as huge as war comes around to ruin everything around me. How do I cope with this? I really need help

The most important battle to be won is in our mind. Be at peace with yourself and the people you meet each day. personally I don’t think we need to stay in touch with current affairs unless it is really necessary. Just my view.

    Dear Kasun:

There always are people predicting doom and gloom, always, economically and otherwise so you will never be at peace if you listen to them. Someone will always say: “The sky is falling down!”

One day it will, most likely at the moment we die, then it is over. Until then, the sky is blue or grey, bright or dark but we are alive. Live then the best you can.

    Hello Kasun,
What you did was the exact first step I took a long time ago when I decided to stop watching news, and I agree – that was the best thing I did for my own sanity.

The next step I took was to start living in the moment, live for the joy of today, not for some far off unknown future that no one knows about – not even the people predicting the next big war.

I love this quote by Annie Dillard – “How you live your days, of course, is how you live your life.”
