So I went back to work today….a bad start really. Boss had shutdown my access so could not login. Got a call from an HR person who told me that my reasonable accommodations may not be doable, and I may need ultimately to move on…..this was an HR person. Seriously, the accomodations are don’t dump too much work on me at once and limit my projects to a workable level, so that I don’t wind up on medical leave.
I did talk to another person and he seemed really happy that I was back and looking forward to seeing me tomorrow when I am in.
I also talked with boss about the projects I am on, why that match was made…..seriously, his response was you were available and they needed someone. I mean, he could have lied and told me that someone asked for me or that it was a good match, or we need this thing that you do well on this one. Nope, you’re 98.6 degrees and that’s good enough.
Yesterday, I had been looking forward to coming back to work and within minutes of starting, it was dragging me down. Now I am totally down, and trying to access those higher vibrations, but I can’t help but feel that they would not notice if I did not come back or if I just disappeared.
Give me hand up, would you?
January 22, 2015 at 1:05 pm #71793keith hondoParticipantI am at that point in life now myself. I always was comfortable at my job, got good reviews, and had good attendance. We got a new director and then it seemed nothing mattered anymore. We were pretty much told we were all expendable, of no real value, and could be replaced easily. Morale went into the toilet, co-workers turned on each other, and long story shortened, many of us moved on.
This seems to be standard everywhere now. The idea of positively motivating employees seems to no longer be of any value to managers these days. I have no real advice other than say don’t let others or your job define you. There are lots of good articles here that can help. One will resonate with you.
I felt so bad reading your post. I know how awful it is to feel like we don’t matter. But rest assured that you do. We all do.
January 22, 2015 at 2:47 pm #71795YueParticipantHaving worked in a similiar environment, I have experienced a lot of what you are going through right now. Like Keith said, a lot of managers feel that it’s ok to tell their staff that they are just a cog in the machine and give a “if you don’t like it, leave” attitude. If you stay in that environment for long enough, eventually you will believe in the lies they tell you and this will have a collapsing effect into the other areas of your life.
My suggestion: start looking for something else because it’s not worth spending the bulk of your time at a place that under values your input.
