Hello,
TinyBuddha has been a great place and insightful for me to get some inspiration. Thank You. Currently I really hate my job right now, there is so many “Blaming” game here and a lot of people are unhappy but showing “happy” face which are totally fake. Some of them are working the minimum but trying to show how hardworking they are in front of the boss. I am very tired and wanna leave asap but the problem is they hold my bonuses until June. So I need to be patient for the rest two and half months more.
I have been applying jobs here and there, but I am very afraid with the uncertainty. There are so many can’t find the right job now, and I feel worried for so many thing. Please help me now.

The things that are making your life difficult at work curently is:
1. Blaming game- can you elaborate who is blaming who and for what? Are you doing the blaming or being blamed, or both?
2. People being fake by showing happy faces while they are not happy: can you elaborate on that- are you faking a happy face as well or are you showing your feelings on your face? How is it working for you?
3. People doing the minimum work and pretending they are hardworking in front of the boss: do you do the minimum, maximum, just “right”? Does your boss appreciate the hard work you do (if you do) or does he fall for others’ pretense of working hard? Is he aware of how much work those under his supervision are doing?
Hoping to get your reply so to help you have an easier time in the rest two and a half months, easier and an opportunity for you to learn for a better future in the working world.

April 13, 2016 at 7:31 pm #101769doremiParticipantHi Anita,
Thank you for your kindness. I am the only designer in my team, so if there is anything wrong or doesn’t workout, all will look for me. “Why this, why that, I don’t feel the design.” and a lot of other nonsense. I have been feeling burn out lately with no passion of what I am doing, together with so much work pile I have to do and also so much feedback I have to receive. I have been three years in this company with accomplishments, but recently my team has a huge change and now I feel my work is very meaningless.
On top of that, I have trying for prayers, feel happy, become positive, etc. But all this drained emotion bring me down again and again. They just want it fast, cheap, and good as much as they can. My team consist of 8 people, including me. The problem is I become very quiet and can’t show poker face at work, pretending like this is the best jobs ever.
I don’t know if I have to look for jobs probably in May, since now is still mid April, and I have to wait my bonuses on June. I received paycut when I accepted this jobs, and now I am afraid it will be hard to jump because recruiters keep asking me my existing salary. However I do believe in my skills and experience as I have won a lot of awards and achievement.
It’s just I can’t stand with unreasonable demand and meaningless feeling at work like this.
Thank You Anita, God Bless You.

Dealing effectively with one’s boss and co workers is such a crucial part of the work life experience. It has to do with how you feel at work and after work; it has to do with how much money you make- it has a lot of power. So as great as you are in designing skills, it is people skills that are extremely important, often more important in how much money you make and in your overall mental health. I hope you get more skillful in dealing with people, being assertive from beginning (first interview) and every day at any job.
Without improving your people skills at the work place, you may have a similar experience in the next job.
What do you think?

I am in a similar situation, and it is very difficult to improve your people skills is you are dealing with fake people. You never know where you stand, or who you are dealing with. We had a incident at work where we lost 2 workers due to an accident on the job. Moral is low, and even worst, because of the accident, work is not coming in so frequently anymore. This is where the fake people comes in. First of all, we pretend that everything is okay, even thought we realise that we are sitting on a sinking ship. There is no work, but everyone is pretending to be super busy in order to hold on to their jobs and argue their value. I know I should move, and I am currently studying education, but the uncertainty is killing me. My move will not only influence me, but also my dependants. And reading Anita’s post about education, I am not so sure anymore. How do you take that leap of faith? I am sure I could make a difference, even if it is only in 1 child’s life, but am I strong enough to make the decision an to stick with it? Or am I going to just sit here and see what happens? It is SO frustrating.. And then as fate will have it I came across this quote of Jim Rohn – “Your life does not get better by CHANCE, it gets better by CHANGE” If someone could send me a bottle of courage it would be highly appreciated!!May 6, 2016 at 11:31 pm #103842doremiParticipantHi Anita and Anoniem,
Thank You for the reply. Yes, I am trying to improve my people skills right now. But I do also believe it really depends on the company culture and environment you are working in. So instead of me keep going crazy by thinking how do I remain positive around people who always rushing me to get what they want and feel like get “unhappy”. I decided to just let it go for the remaining times. As I don’t want to care so much whether they are blaming me, etc. anymore, since I am going to leave, no matter what. I only hope I can be peaceful and comforting with myself in the remaining time. And find a great job that appreciate my occupation more soon.
Hi Anoniem,
I understand your feeling with uncertainty, as I am in the same position now, but I believe it will soon change. However the word “CHANGE” can only be happen if we are trying, if it doesn’t work try again, if it is stressful try again, as you keep trying you also find your mistake and try to improve it. Treat it as a self education, real-life experience education. I am also very stressful and uncertain sometimes, but if the heart (and your head) already know something is wrong, staying longer without purpose has no meaning either. Don’t quit your job now, but never lose hope, think what interest you, and what dream job that you want. You are courageous person, the fact that you are asking for advice means you are trying to do something. I believe in you and hope you all the best.

You are welcome and I do hope you establish and maintain a peace of mind best you can for the remainder time at your job. In your next job, before accepting it, notice the company culture and environment, so to avoid the same.
And do post again, anytime.

May 9, 2016 at 8:10 pm #104095TaraParticipantHello-
It’s never a good situation when you “hate” your job. Think of all the energy you’re using just to say how much you dislike your job? I’m sorry you’re faced with this situation.
I recently quit my job back in February 2016. Why? Because I too “hated” my job. It made me miserable, I was extremely unhappy and depressed and surrounded by people who did not appreciate me or my hard work.
The best advice I can give you is to listen to your heart. If it’s time to go, then you know what to do. Life is way too short to be miserable. If you’re worried about money, just know you can correct course along the way and find a temporary job until you find the correct job that suits you. Make yourself a priority and things will fall into place.
