Perhaps you could bring the space with you. Instead of “when I’m with others, the space in my environement is disrupted” consider “when I am alone, I feel spaciousness inside of me that I can bring to the world around me.”. This is similar to the practice of meditation. On the cushion, we touch upon a beauty, grace and silence. Then, when we get up from the cushion… that’s when the real practice begins. 🙂

I too enjoy being alone and allow myself the time I need to recharge my battery and get back out there. For myself I quickly get out of practice when I am alone too much. Gradual amounts of exposure to selected social situations help me maintain a certain amount of people skills. As someone with anxiety (which includes social anxiety) it is easy to over analyze my performance when out and about but I cannot allow this to over-ride my need for interaction. Be kind to yourself and allow the people closest to you to help you through the feelings you are experiencing.
