    Hi Anita,

Sorry for the late reply. I have been feeling a bit follow lately and haven’t been able to give this much thought. I’ve been signed off sick at work because of my mental health issues. I also suspect I may have bipolar disorder. Just not sure how to feel now because when I do feel positive, I am worried it might be just a manic episode. I haven’t been diagnosed yet (my appointment is in November). Do you have any advice? Should I start another thread maybe?

    Dear Afrin:

I think that most people do not experience the perfect balance between happy and sad, between high and low. When the brain experiences too-sad, it compensates by bringing about a too-happy experience, over-releasing the feel-good chemicals.

You are going through a tough time but if you panic, or continue to panic, it will get worse. As it is, it is not as bad as it seems to you. You are in a crisis, but not an irreversible one, you can get better. And you will, if you don’t panic, if you don’t jump to conclusions. Got to relax best you can, then think rationally, take little steps that make steps and move forward.

    Thanks Anita,

It is a lot to take on.

I am trying my best to try and relax for now and trying not to overthink.

Thank you for your kind words.

    Dear Afrin:

Start from the beginning. You ran fast for a long time, got far and then fell down. As you get up, don’t run this time, walk instead, slowly, one thoughtful step at a time. And seek help with this new beginning, you need help to walk “On a slippery slope”.

You can stay on this thread or start another (why would you want to start another?)

    Anita,

Thanks, I’ve been taking it super slow now, but I guess this idea that I might be bipolar has thrown me off. That’s why I thought I would ask others in another thread about bipolar and their experiences. Just to see if I have it or not.

    Dear Afrin:

I think bipolar like other disorders is a spectrum thing and most people experience the transitions from too sad/ distressed to very happy/ calm. Like I wrote, the brain compensates, or makes up for too much distress by releasing lots of feel-good chemicals from time to time, sort of taking a much needed break from misery.

As you process the misery, that is the distress of having been mistreated living with your parents, then having been mistreated as you left, as you soften that misery imbedded in the neuropathways of your brain, you will also experience lack of the compensating highs.
