    Right now I’m in a difficult spot, don’t know what is the right thing to do.
    First option:
    If I find a job right now (cleaning or something similar) and work for a two years from now on, I’ll have enough money to go to Canada, work there and then start to study character illustration and concept art which is my dream job.
    Second option:
    If I start to practice drawing every single day and keep up doing it for a year from now, I’ll have a small or a fair chance to find a job in a game industry that I want so bad and earn enough money in one year and go to Canada pursuing my dreams even further.
    Here is the tough part.
    I have just finished my high school education two weeks ago.
    Right now I’m still living with my parents and because of that I have a feeling that I don’t deserve a food or a place to sleep because I don’t have a job and making money to help them pay the bills. (We are a middle class family)
    What should I do?
    Find a job right now and pursue dreams later, or start to pursue dreams right now and find a job later.
    I’ll turn 20 this November.

    Hello Karlo,

    It seems as if you are very passionate about art and character illustration. To pursue what you love will make life meaningful and fuel you. You just graduated high school (it hasn’t even been a couple of months), so you have some time before you can begin worrying about working and helping your family. Why not find a job and pursue your dream at the same time? That way you will have a goal (move to Canada and study illustration) and you will have some money to do it on your own. Find a job that you are happy doing and help your family. Meanwhile, create a bank account and save some money for your dream. Most jobs are around 8 hours a day which leaves the rest of the day to practice drawing. I think it may be easier than when you were at school as well since you won’t have “homework.” Besides, since you enjoy drawing it may help you relax in your free time outside work. Don’t give up on your dreams, anything is possible.

    Hi Karlo,

    As a career coach, I’d say start drawing now AND do something to earn money. You could get a job that is just about money so you can show up, go home, and get paid. Or you could look for a job that would somehow support your dream of working in the game industry. That could mean working in some kind of production or for another artist. This kind of job has the possibility of giving you insight into the industry you want to work in, so you get more than a paycheck out of it. Good luck!
