Hello there everyone! I’m a current first year student at a university. I really like to meditate early in the morning before my day starts, it really gets me on the right mindset. In high school, I just took math and physics courses really, so memorizing wasn’t really something I had to do. I decided to go into sciences because of my passion for it. I know meditation really helps me remember things but to better maximize the effects of meditation, should I meditate before or after studying? Thank you for taking time to helping me out on this one guys!

if you have time do it after as well, no harm 🙂October 4, 2015 at 4:06 pm #84696SannParticipantDon’t know. I’m not an expert on meditation.
I don’t know if there is a general guideline, or if it all depends on the person.
I know, for me sometimes it would work like this, and sometimes it might be better to go for a walk or a run before studying.Have you tried, different times to meditate, to see what works best for you?

I can’t remember where I exactly saw it, but I have seen meditations/mantras/dieties that help with knowledge and understanding. It would be a beneficial thing to look up, hopefully? 🙂
Good luck to you in your studies!

“Technically,” meditation is supposed to work the best during the early morning hours between 3am and 5am! That’s called the “Brahma muhurta” – the divine time – ideal for obtaining knowledge, or for studies. However, if that doesn’t work for you, it doesn’t matter what the masters say. As Sann suggested, you could try to experiment with different times to figure out what works best for you.November 8, 2015 at 12:20 pm #86988SannParticipantHi again Kasun,
I just saw this topic again. I’m actually starting my meditation practice again, since about 2 – 3 weeks. I’m not a student, but I am doing some online courses at the moment, which means i’m also spending some time studying. I meditate one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon, and i haven’t really figured out what if most beneficial for the studying mind.
But i also think, that it the benefits are most important in the long run. That it calms your mind, making it more clear and will make it easier to retain the content. Because it is a gradual process that transforms your mind, which gives you much more than just how you feel or how your cognitions work better after an hour of meditating. So even if you’re not meditating in the best time, if you maintain the practice it will help you. But, these are just my personal thoughts, and i’m definitely not an expert on medidation.
Have you made any progress actually, on finding out what works best?
Good luck, and good luck with your studies!

I am also a science student. I meditate at different times. However, I have found that when I get really overwhelmed in the afternoons I will meditate. The mornings are busy, but maybe it will help you slow down a little bit? On the other hand, it can also help destress you at the end of the day. I find that exercise works wonders as well!
