Lately I just have a lack of interest in everything. I try to be interested in things but it fizzles and burns out. I don’t know why I’m this way. I feel like I’m just existing without having any purpose. I’m unemployed and my mind is just consumed with “how to make money” just to survive but nothing I’ve tried gives me any joy at all or piece of mind. Anyone else know how to get through this? Or can relate to the issue?

I feel lazy, unmotivated, I feel like life doesn’t have any purpose (I mean, we give a meaning to life, but for me it doesn’t have a meaning) and I don’t really care about anything, I feel anxious, unsettled…unhappy, idk. Just unhappy and purposeless. I wish I could give you some advice but all I can do is relate to you, I hope other people will give you some good and practical advice.

I saw your post and it resonated with me as I, more often than not, relate with feeling lazy, unmotivated, and lack of interest in things–so I decided to create an account just to reply to tell you that you’re not alone in facing all those stuff.
I spent all day thinking and searching for answers today (hard to find answers when you don’t know where good information lies) about what I wanted in life.. which really frustrated me by the end of the day and as I ended up feeling like I wasted my day just thinking about that and how to improve my life.
However, back to the topic, the clues to our problems, lack of passion/interest, may be hidden in our feelings.. e.g. What about life makes you feel angry? happy? what makes you feel important? etc. Finding these out can possibly lead us to learning more about ourselves, and perhaps with some reflection and positive self-talk, we can give ourselves some push/clarity/motivation in the right direction.
Are you talking to people friends/strangers/family as often as you need to feel like the healthy social animal humans are supposed to be?
Are you hanging out with the right people or reading the right books about people who have made it happen in your field of interest? (Zero external entities/influencers = zero extra motivation)
Are you spending your time wisely that would benefit your situation? (is what you’re doing this hour.. every hour.. for your own good?)
Are you eating enough meals and drinking enough water?
Are helping people who have it worse than you?
Perhaps by answering these questions we can determine if we’re happy or unhappy with our situations. Perhaps if you’re truly unhappy/upset/had-enough you’d just be damned to do something about it.
Take care you both. Hope I’ve left either of you with at least one idea that you find useful.
Take action! Take action! Take action even if it’s not perfect.. try!

I can try to do healthier things for myself but then I feel like I am just trying to trick myself which doesn’t feel good. Lately the closest things I like are walking and sleeping because they don’t require me to buy or consume anything. It just seems like everything takes money… and I can’t seem to get hired into a good job that I like. I don’t even know where to look because I don’t know what I like anymore besides things that don’t cost anything…

It makes sense to me that you experience lack of interest in things, being consumed with how to make money, no joy or peace of mind- it makes sense to me because your focus is on surviving (“just to survive”).
Think of it, if you will, this way: a plant, maybe a tree that finds itself in physical distress, not having enough water or nutrients or space, when its physical survival is at risk, it may shed its flowers, its leaves, some branches, and keep its physical body minimal. So to survive. In a similar way, when a person perceived his or her survival as being at risk, she sheds her interests, her motivations, her passions, and exists minimally with only one focus: how to survive.
