    Hi all,

Recently I was being asked about feedback on an ex co worker whom previously worked with but didn’t have a good impression of, however I still gave a positive feedback about him. I kept things neutral and just highlighted his strengths.
My other friend felt that I should be honest about it like giving both strengths and weaknesses. I wouldn’t want to affect someone’s work opportunity or create a bad reputation for him in the industry so I chose to remain neutral/positive. I had seem people who didnt get a job for close to a year because of their bad reputation in the market, and for myself I wouldnt want to affect a person’s rice bowl.

I want to keep the cycle positive.

do you think I am wrong?

I think your position is perfectly reasonable. I also think a system where someone’s hiring chances are effected by what former colleagues who didn’t even work closely with the person think of them is messed up.

You did the right thing, stay with your principles.

    Thank you will.
Unfortunately many companies still believe that reference cheCk is 100percent accurate.

I had a situation where an employee and myself evaluated each other. I remained professional and neutral or positive. She, on the other hand, was quite negative. I have suffered because of this. I have tried several times to bad mouth her but just can’t bring myself to do so. It is a difficult situation.
Did you give just your professional opinion about this coworker? Did you keep the personal opinions out? That is the best way to do it.

    Hi mjl

Yes I kept it positive. Didn’t want to share on the negative parts.

I believe in karma so best to keep cycle positive. And I would also feel better this way.
