I think I understand your fear.
You mentioned IBS. There is a very close relationship between distress and the digestive system, including the intestines. Best thing you can do for your digestive system is to relax. There is a lot of information you can find out about your body by relaxing and paying attention to it. For many years I wasn’t able to do that and believed that there is something terribly wrong with my body. With relaxation and mindfulness (the ability to pay attention, when relaxed), I learned how my body works and how it doesn’t work and that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with how it functions.
I used to read all the many writings on diet, on what to eat and what not to eat, on what food is the enemy-of-the-day, and I tried some diets that caused me more problems, detox and such. Recently I found out that all the information I need, at this point, is available to me by relaxing and paying attention.
