Hi I’ve just arrived here. By way of a hello, I share this quote (I’m probably mis-quoting, but never mind). It’s attributed to the Buddha. I found it recently and after reading it about a dozen times and going away to think about it for an age I have resolved to try to have it near the front of my mind whenever I can.
Here it is – see if it makes sense to you: Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant with the weak and wrong. Some time in your life you will have been all of these.
Glad you are here. And I like the quote very much. Resolve to be tender, compassionate, sympathetic, tolerant- all good verbs. And yes, sometimes we are/ will be all these things young, aged, striving, weak, wrong.
I was referring to the OPs quote. I find it to be a healthy reminder to look outside of one’s own self interests and to try to see the world from another’s eyes. I find in those moments I learn more about myself and am happier. Although it can be difficult with the pressures of daily life!

I agree: when I learn about another, how another thinks and feels and behaves, I do learn more about myself. And the more I learn about myself, the more I learn about others.
