April 19, 2022 at 3:11 am #398250HoneyBlossomParticipantHi Anita and Helacat. I’m still around but flat out with every day life. Not sure if I told you both that the surgeon got the results back and he was able to get ALL of the tumor excised. His office called me today to say that I need to collect paperwork to go back for day procedure in June to see if there are any recurrences. I will have to be doing that every 3 months for a while.
I’ve been either just not sleeping whenbIm not Working and still doing a lot of 12 hour shifts. I have been trying to find out as much as O can about homeopathic veterinary practice. We don’t have one anywhere near where I am which is a shame as I’m very disappointed in the best this way. I have pretty much decided to buy a device developed by an Australian vet to perform acupuncture, but instead of needles, a type of red light is used. I have been following some homeopathic vets and pet owners online, and it’s been interesting.
I think my little dog is slowly improving. She hasn’t had a seizure around 4 days now. The Chinese medicine won’t arrive for around 10 days. I hope she stays well.
Roses mother passed away, and needless to say, it’s been difficult for her. She knows I’m here if she needs to talk or wants anything.
I still don’t know exactly what is happening with work. I’m quite sure I will get work within the organisation, but it’s bureaucratic and manage m ent are slow with so much.
I hope you both had a good Easter. XXXX

Congratulations! That is amazing news about the tumour.I’m sorry to hear that your dog is unwell and having seizures.
I hope your work let’s you know what is going on soon.
Any one of these events is stressful. It seems to me that you have been going through a lot. How are you feeling about it all?

April 19, 2022 at 6:18 am #398259HoneyBlossomParticipantHi Helecat. I’m doing okay thanks but I h a ‘ve felt tired for a long time. The thing I have been stressed about the most h a s been my dog (dogs). I have h d hard times in my life where it has just been them and me. There was a time that I was so depressed, I didn’t want to be around, but I would never abandon them – so they ate more than just dogs or even family. T hey are my therapy dogs and one of the most stable things in my life.
April 19, 2022 at 7:55 am #398260AnonymousGuestDear HoneyBlossom:
Good to read from you again, congratulations for having had all the tumor excised! I hope that your dog continues to be seizure free. You mentioned homeopathic treatments for dogs, something I was not aware of, so I looked online, and I see that there is a product called Nuroplex in capsule form and in a liquid/ spray form, to “help alleviate the symptoms of chronic seizures and epilepsy… in dogs and cats… a natural alternative to traditional drug therapy”.
There is also a book called Canine Epilepsy & Seizures: Causes and Treatments. From the Amazon entry about the book, it reads: “Seizures are one of the most common neurological conditions in dogs… They occur when too much electrical activity is going on in the outer layers of a dog’s brain called the cortex… Seizures are the result of muscle responses to an abnormal nerve-signal burst from the brain”.
Wikipedia on Epilepsy (mostly in humans) reads: “Not all cases of epilepsy are lifelong, and many people improve to the point that treatment is no longer needed”, “There is evidence that epileptic seizures are usually not a random event. Seizures are often brought on by factors (also known as triggers) such as stress, excessive alcohol use, flickering light, or a lack of sleep, among others”, “There is promising evidence that a ketogenic diet (high-fat, low carbohydrate, adequate protein) decreases the number of seizures and eliminates seizures in some”, and “Epilepsy… is in fact the most common brain disorder in dogs… It is typically treated with anticonvulsants such as phenobarbital or bromide… Imepitoin is also used in dogs”.

April 19, 2022 at 9:42 am #398313HelcatParticipantNo wonder you have been tired with everything that has been going on. I hope you start to feel better now that the tumour has been treat!
I feel the same way about my dogs too. My boy had a cancer scare the other year and I was distraught at the idea of losing him.
It seems almost like a role reversal of the situation now. Your pup is having difficulties and you are doing your best to support them.
You sound like a very loving owner that is doing the very best possible for her pets.
I have also heard that the ketogenic diet is helpful for epilepsy. Epileptic people use this diet when treatment isn’t helpful. It is good to hear that it is helping with dogs too.
April 19, 2022 at 3:29 pm #398379HoneyBlossomParticipantHi Anita and Helacat. Nice to be in contact with you both again. Yes Anita, there are several other treatments which claim to control seizures. For the moment, I won’t take doggie off the Phenytoin but possible I will gradually reduce him off it under vet supervision but I am a long way from that at the moment.
I have had to make some big changes to the diet, and I tried to do it too quickly and she got terrible diarrhoea so it all take time.
I’m buying a red and infrared torch to treat a few ailments, most urgently is the degeneration n in her hips and legs caused by the Cushings disease. Hopefully, I will be able to at least slow down arthritis in the other dog.
I’m planning to do online course with a woman in Spain on Photonic Therapy in Accupressure in Vet Health. It is used with horses as well and may b e later I will do her horse classes but for now going to stick with dogs.
I’ve also attended small parts of an online summit in senior dog care with all speakers being vets. I’m paying membership so I can go back and watch recordings of speakers I missed out on and access online resources.
Looks like it’s going to be a nice day here. We had a few days of rain and clouds and that had been forecast into today.
I’m working later today and this evening, but I would love to be home.
Thank you for your kind words about me. I hope your dog is healthy and happy now and both of you are well. Have a great day. 😁
April 19, 2022 at 7:11 pm #398456AnonymousGuestDear HoneyBlossom:
You are definitely devoted to your dog. I looked at photonic health. com and it looks so easy to use the hand-held light devices in the photos. I hope it helps your dog!
I know a man who is very troubled with his heeler dog who keeps him up at nights needing to go to the bathroom often during each night. The dog drinks lots and lots of water every chance he gets (and lots of food every chance he gets) and needing to relieve himself often. The guy takes his dog to the vet, gives him meds for his bladder and anti-anxiety. I am concerned about this nice man, he seems in much need for sleep, he’s been up every night for a long time. Any advice, based on the very limited information I provided?

April 20, 2022 at 5:48 am #398466HelcatParticipantI empathise with the difficulties of changing a dog’s diet. Mine both have digestive issues due to their breed.
Fortunately, my boy didn’t end up with a tumour. It was one of those situations where the vet suggested he’s either got cancer or he’ll be fine in a couple of weeks because the lump is an allergic reaction. I was lucky it was a result of an allergic reaction.
Good luck with the infrared treatments and training! I hope it helps your dog.

April 20, 2022 at 5:53 am #398468HelcatParticipantI actually know a dog with those exact issues that was later on diagnosed with Cushing’s disease. The medication associated with the condition helped reduce symptoms a lot.
Unfortunately, there are a variety of conditions including old age associated with these issues. I hope the vet will continue to work with your friend and figure these issues out. It is terrible when sleep is disrupted.
April 20, 2022 at 8:17 am #398470AnonymousGuestDear Helcat:
Thank you for the information! I will pass it on to the dog’s owner.
I just read in bark wiki. com, that indeed “extreme thirst and hunger (due to low level of glucose)” is one of the symptoms of crushing disease (aka hyperadrenocorticism, an excess of cortisol secreted by the adrenal glands located above the kidneys). I learned today that polydipsia means increased level of thirst, polyuria means abnormally high urine production, and polyphagia means increased appetite. I read that excess thirst and urine may be symptoms of renal (kidney) failure, or hepatic (liver) diseases.
