I understand this. But I’m a guy and for me its when females are getting close emotionally.

I was in a relationship for a while which I was very emotionally invested in, and after that ended, I became very wary being being hurt again.

When it comes to friends however, I have no problems investing emotionally as I know its harder for friendships to end.

I think you need to evaluate, if your connection is too much or maybe you are a loving person. In that case, you are making things harder for yourself by trying to change how you naturally feel.
