Dear Jack:
I enjoyed your comments on other threads, in particular come to mind “Highly Strung Hyena” as an inner self mentioned again lately, and your spin on the serenity prayer. The latter is Llama Jack’s creative spin on the serenity prayer.
It is a pleasure to read your latest board meeting and to meet Max the Motivator! Indeed it is. I have to say something first about what Max said (hate to disagree): no jogging- it is dangerous for the knees, likely to cause injuries especially being overweight. Jogging as running puts too much weight on those knees- no,no no! Take on walking, slower at first, then increase the pace, brisk walking. In walking you don’t have both legs in the air at any one time, and then all that weight on the left knee… repeat, both legs in the air and all that weight on the right knee. For more information, contact Runningaroundrenee@ ….(She doesn’t really run but running is marketed as COOL and I chose a cooler name for her but in reality, she walks).
Otherwise: I love the above post- how clever and entertaining! Max not pointing any fingers “but Abe”- ha ha. And then “nor anyone else” because all inner selves are overweight. And bringing the dumbbell to the meeting so to make a real life hold it and feel its weight kind of an impression.
And Marvin’s input here, of course (I hate Marvin!)
And thank you for your comment to me before that!

October 12, 2015 at 1:43 pm #85268jockParticipantJust I miss that feeling of jogging and how I felt after a run.
But I take your point.
Have a nice day Anita and don’t walk too far today!! 🙂October 12, 2015 at 1:50 pm #85271AnonymousGuestDear Jack:
I will walk only 2.5 miles, that is only 4 km (in addition to the morning walk)- but then I do no other physical thing, some core work (crunches and such) and some yoga stretches. I wonder how you are doing after the last board meeting? Did Max successfully motivate you?
It is raining here and wood is burning in the wood stove. It is 89 degrees though in LA where I used to live.

October 12, 2015 at 1:55 pm #85273jockParticipantHey I am definitely more mindful of not eating biscuits for a while. And I walked for 2 hours yesterday.
I admit that writing about Max the Motivator and not actually doing anything about it, would be highly hypocritical. You haven’t met Harry the Hypocrite yet. He does attend the occasional meeting. I try to limit his influence and am mostly successful. I find it is best not to talk too proud, in case you can’t follow up. Walk the talk which is something you are definitely good at.October 12, 2015 at 2:03 pm #85275AnonymousGuestDear Jack:
Some of the Inner Selves are doing the bullying, others are the ones being bullied. Max the Motivator, Adam the Adult, Llama Jack, these are mostly the good guys. I think Harry is bullied. Just because you don’t follow through some times is no reason for Norman to call Harry a hypocrite! (I hate Norman)
Congrats for the two hours walk and biscuit abstinence.

October 12, 2015 at 2:20 pm #85280AnonymousGuestI do repeat myself with: I hate Norman, and I did it again.
Oh, to my record of exercise i also do dumbells every other day.

October 12, 2015 at 3:36 pm #85293jockParticipantre exercise
I use resistance bands to avoid injury before using dumb bells.
What do you think of resistance bands?October 12, 2015 at 5:18 pm #85311AnonymousGuestI have resistance bands but my neighbor, a girl, broke one of the handles and I didn’t use them since. They are excellent and I should get a new handle and/ or otherwise use them. And always carefully and slowly, almost everything done slowly is better, better exercise and safer. Walking should start slow but then speed. Running, never.

October 12, 2015 at 5:32 pm #85318AnonymousGuestOne more thing Jack: second day of no Tammy, no Fran other than a whisper. I didn’t eat too much (did not overeat) second day in a row. This is indeed a testimonial to the effectiveness of your Inner Self Therapy (IST)

October 12, 2015 at 6:19 pm #85319jockParticipantNow let me introduce Dr. Jack Kornfield. Jack is going to give us a talk today on a revolutionary new self-therapy called IST or Inner Self Therapy.
Dr Jack: thank you Mr. Chairman. But first let me tell you about a person who really deserves all the credit for this sensational therapy. I’m referring to a Dr. Anita Freud, great grand-daughter of Sigmund. Her insights and analyses are mind-boggling, super-outrageous, bowl me over brilliant, totally awesome. I could go on and on…and I will…earth-shatteringly sharp, intensely and intellectually iconic, ..
Chairman: OK jack that’s enough. So tell us what makes IST so profound, so unique, so wing machine?- This reply was modified 9 years, 2 months ago by jock.
October 12, 2015 at 7:09 pm #85325AnonymousGuestThank you Dr. Jack. I am profoundly humbled, outrageously mind boggled and otherwise well, pleased. Oh, so pleased to be associated with such adjectives as great, brilliant, awesome, earth shattering, sharp, and please do go on and on… My self esteem is in no danger of being overly attended to.
To your next post.
