I am where I am
It is what it is
There is nothing to fixBe here now
In the moment at hand
Let the past rest
It is a fantasyBreathe in life
As deeply as I can
There is no need to rush
Gods planI survived all this time
And i will continue
With or without youIt is what it is
I am where I am
There is nothing to fix…Trust in Gods plan

For me, your poem is beautiful (except for the God part):
“I am where I am/ It is what it is/ There is nothing to fix” – what a relief, nothing to fix.
“Be here now/ In the moment at hand/ Let the past rest/ It is a fantasy”- very well said. Let the past rest, no longer experiencing the past in the present, activated again and again, taking over the present. Seeing what-is as it is, without the confusing layers of distorted thinking and make-believe.
“Breathe in life/ As deeply as I can/ There is no need to rush”- no need to rush nature’s plan, for me, the plan that has been going on ever since nature came about.
“I survived all this time/ And I will continue/ With or without you”- but like another poem, or song says: we are people who need people. We don’t need this or that person, but we need people.
“It is what it is/ I am where I am/ There is nothing to fix”- indeed a relief, nothing for me to fix and a whole lot that I cannot fix and therefore, I shouldn’t try to fix.. and fail to fix, once again and then again.
Thank you for this poem, LiamJames. I like it very much. As I submit this and bump it up to the top of the page, I hope other members enjoy it and comment.

All words are symbols and unpacking a word like ‘God’ has resulted in millions of books and billions of words so its understandable that each of us relates/triggers to it differently.
September 24, 2019 at 1:04 pm #314057LiamJamesParticipantI have been relentlessly trying to ease my suffering from my recent breakup, but I have discovered that I hurt more when i compulsively try to hurt less. This poem for me is about allowing myself to feel what needs to be felt, and settling into it, as opposed to trying to “fix” it. This is not to say I’m not still remaining proactive, but I’m giving myself permission to feel the loss fully instead of running from it.

Do settle into the hurt of your relationship ending. But the suffering you mentioned (“I have been relentlessly trying to ease my suffering from my recent breakup”), the word suffering implies more than hurt- it implies conflict, an internal struggle (which prolongs and maintain hurt and anger and anxiety)-
– what do you mean by suffering?

I am not good at writing poetry, but I can share with you a poem that my therapist shared with me years ago, a poem about Mindfulness. It is called Hokusai Says (by Roger Keyes). You can google it if you want. Here is a some of it:
“Hokusai says look carefully.
He says pay attention, notice.
He says keep looking, stay curious.
He says there is no end to seeing.
Everything lives inside us.
He says lie with the world inside you…
He says don’t be afraid.
Don’t be afraid.
Look, feel, let life take you by the hand.
Let life live through you”
