I feel what you are feeling as well.  I live in a very “traditional” state but in a smaller town where we have a local university which does produce more progressive thinking.   That said, it feels like I live in a place that has not quite caught up yet!  There are few places that I can connect with like-minded people and it is a very isolating feeling.  I have become more introverted as a result, but I don’t often feel lonely, as I use that time for personal reflection and enjoying my home and my pets.  Looking forward to connecting with like-minded individuals here too!
