I think I’m very naive myself Jack – or so people tell me all the time. I was just saying that on another thread – I have an idealistic vision for the world, you know like Lennon’s “Imagine” song, but I also think there have been idealistic people who made a difference in the world – like Gandhi that I mentioned in my other thread, and of course Mother Teresa. Yes, the world is full of cunning people – in fact the world seems to be run by them! But I don’t want to think about them… I’d much rather create my own little happy world π (rather than a horror movie!)
SaiishaParticipantAislynn,
This debate has been going on for ages now, and although I don’t agree with death penalty I don’t want to debate about it either. But what I want to add in addition to what the others said above is how we can make the world a better place, especially if we don’t agree with the atrocities that are going on. This world is what we created. And we can continue making it the place we want it to be, by being “the change you wish to see in the world” (Gandhi). This is the ONLY way we can make the world a better place, even in the face of all the atrocities. Do as many positive things you can do as possible. It will create a ripple effect in the world you live in, the immediate world around you.
I do this by not boycotting the sensationalized news media, I do this by using plastic as little as possible, I do this by creating as tiny a footprint on the planet as I possibly can, I do this by traveling as little as I can so I don’t pollute the environment and use earth’s resources unnecessarily, I do this by commenting / helping people on positive places like TinyBuddha and my own website. This is how I’ve chosen to create the world I want to live in. You can call me naive, but if we can all do that, I do have an ideal that we can create the world a better place to live π

SaiishaParticipantJack, your original post on this thread reminded me of a poem by William Blake:
To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour…I believe your artistic sensitivity is your gift – for you to see and feel such moments often!!

We’re so critical of ourselves, aren’t we? To be able to not only have tolerance but to accept and love yourself despite our perceived imperfections (we’re only human huh) – that’s a biggie!
December 22, 2015 at 3:42 pm in reply to: Question Are we born with a Purpose or do we create our own? #90312SaiishaParticipantSorry I confused you Who!
What I meant was that we all have an overarching purpose; however we take different paths (smaller / external paths) to get to it. For example, if the overarching purpose for two different people is to learn about love, one’s path to learn about love might be through service to the poor, whereas another’s might be through overcoming lovelessness from a parent. The “service to the poor” or the “lovelessness” of a parent” was what I was referring to as a different vehicle for the same journey, but I think that was confusing, so you can ignore that! π
SaiishaParticipantHello Ed,
In addition to what Inky said above about not feeling like what we’re doing matters; I find that an easy way to let things go is to replace that thing (whatever it may be) with something more positive, something to look forward to. Taking your example of traffic, I had a friend who had this exact same problem, but once I got him to start listening to books on tape, his commutes have been so much easier for him to deal with (for some reason, listening to morning talk radio didn’t have the same effect on him, prior to him starting to listening to audio books).
I hope this helps!December 21, 2015 at 3:02 pm in reply to: Question Are we born with a Purpose or do we create our own? #90156SaiishaParticipantHello Who,
Lots of great discussion in here, so I don’t want to derail the conversation, but I just wanted to address your first question: “Are we born with a purpose in life, or do we create our own as we live life?”I like what you said: “If we are born with a purpose, does that mean… itβs already chosen for us? Or do we live our lives and create a purpose for ourselves to have meaning?”
I don’t know either, but this is how I like to look at it – we are born with a purpose, an overarching life purpose – or the inner life purpose as Jack mentioned, that’s the same for everyone, whatever different paths they take on the journey. The different paths we take is where we create the purpose for ourselves to have meaning, to create a vehicle for that journey.
SaiishaParticipant“A non-disclosed movie portal with a red icon” – that’s funny Mark π
And I agree with you – I was just posting on another thread about not setting my alarm at all lately – that’s been an amazing change for me. I hated being woken up by the scream of an alarm clock; it’s much more pleasant to just drift awake with the warming sun on my face, and being able to remember my dreams!SaiishaParticipantHi Maria,
I’d agree with Mark’s advice above – what tiny steps can you take today toward creating your dream life of traveling the world? (or whatever else your dream life would be) Every step you take adds momentum to your new journey. Even the one or two tries you had about foreign study scholarships might have created momentum, but maybe you stopped too soon. Don’t stop… keep going. Knowing that the job you have now gives you money to create the life you’re seeking might make it easier to keep going. Good Luck!!SaiishaParticipantHi Melanie,
I had felt this way for years… 15 years to be exact – every Sunday night. I dreaded Monday mornings, even when there was seemingly nothing to dread! Nothing helped until I realized it was because I felt trapped by a job that I didn’t love. In reality, no one trapped me but myself, and my beliefs that I couldn’t let go of a well-paying job. I decided that I didn’t want to wake up that way and so took I my time figuring out how I wanted to wake up each morning, what I’d have to do to change my life around to wake up every morning with hope, and slowly transitioned my life over to the way I wanted to live, and finally did it one day – I quit my job! And it’s the best feeling ever not to have those Sunday night jitters ever again! I don’t set my alarm clock ever… and I love waking up to the sunrise, remembering my dreams, and literally with a smile on my face. Sorry if it sounds a little obnoxious, but it’s true πSo maybe think about what’s causing your anxiety? this sense of impending doom? That maybe where you want to start. Otherwise, any meditations or medications are bandaids on a bullet hole (without removing the bullet first)!
SaiishaParticipantMy last day alive… hmm… I had always imagined I’d be alone, my skin and body slowly becoming less and less dense, becoming lighter and lighter… drifting off like a puff of smoke! I know that’s not very realistic, and probably not very uplifting in this thread, but for me it gives me a good feeling to think of it that way π
SaiishaParticipantHi Jasmine, I can understand how you’d feel dependent based on having lots of time to yourself, but not having friends or someone to share with, or something to do.
Instead, can you visualize what your ideal day would be like? And see if you can start taking steps toward it? I find that the best way to fight feeling negative is to take steps toward positivity. Even the tiniest steps make a difference toward feeling more like yourself and less of losing yourself in someone else’s life.
SaiishaParticipantHi Jack,
It does sound sad, doesn’t it? And probably why we humans cling to our clans and communities! But we come into the world alone and we leave it alone, even twins! And why we try to learn self-inquiry, self-confidence, self-esteem (I saw your other post about it), self-reliance, self-realization on our spiritual journeys… notice the prefix self-? πSaiishaParticipantHi tara, it’s very perceptive of you to notice that you’re grieving the loss of the community of women you depended on for sharing wisdom, comfort, and personal growth, especially when they helped you sky-rocket it! But a soul’s journey is always alone, no matter how many people you meet on the way. I know this may not be what you like to hear, and you can always find another community to support you until you become stronger in your spirit, but this event may be a lesson that you had to learn. Or maybe a prompt for you to start and lead your own community π
