Hi Inky,
I see that you just enjoy the simple things in life, and that gets you through the craziness. Sounds like you’re living in the moment when you do your activities. I should be mindful of that too because I think A LOT and sometimes (or most of the time) not being in the present. What throws me off is all the distractions begging for my attention. I guess I have to do “laundry” everyday to clean things out haha. Thanks for sharing Inky.

James NgParticipantHi fellow New Yorker (Anonymous),
I’ve always heard about the benefits of meditation but never seem to commit myself to learning and practicing it. I have tried the mind over matter technique of waking each morning and telling myself that “Today is going to be a great day!” During the winter, I push myself to get outside and get some fresh air because it really helps. You’re right, I just don’t sit or else I’ll freeze my ass off haha. I work near Central Park so I have the benefit of being with nature.
Thanks for the light! It’ll be reflected back to you.

James NgParticipantSup Sann,
Don’t stress yourself too much. Everyone has a unique sense of humor, whether it be dry, sarcastic, unintentional, or funny facial expressions (sorry I don’t know the names of all those types of humor). Just like anita said, you just have to relax into yourself and be you.
You cannot fake it and force humor because then that would be a called a “force of humor”, no pun intended.
I’m not even sure if I used that correctly, but anyway, what might help is to hang around with funny people or those who are always laughing/saying something stupid. The moment you start to laugh, your thinking stops and any tension disappears. Think about it, no one stresses about any thoughts during times of laughter. Laughter is contagious so you will probably contribute to the laughter naturally without thinking about it.

-JamesJames NgParticipantHi Libby,
So here’s my definition:
The universe is basically made up of energy. All information is stored in the universe for us humans to discover.“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
People always tap into this vast energy, even unknowingly at times. Some examples are through prayers and the law of attraction, like what Saiisha said. I think being spiritual is being able to harness, connect, and embrace this universal energy. No disrespect to all the religions out there, but spirituality is basically the same thing. People just name their faiths differently – God, Christ, Allah, Buddha, Muhammad, etc. In other words, people believe in a higher “being” or higher order but just call it different names.
They are all different roads that lead to the same path.
My perspective came from these sources:
Tao Te Ching (by Lao Tzu, translated by Stephen Mitchell)
The God Theory (by Bernard Haisch)
random knowledge from here and thereAgain this is just my take. Let me know what you think.
Best,
JamesJames NgParticipantHey that’s a step towards self-improvement already. Good for you!
We all get influenced by other people, either directly or indirectly. Surrounding yourself with different people is good at times because you’ll learn who you are in the process – your core values and beliefs.
I don’t know how big of a nature person you are but spending some time alone outdoors in a natural setting, preferably at a park or by the shore, is good for you. About 15-30 minutes is good enough, but the longer the better.
The reason is simple. We are constantly surrounded by distractions, drama, and negativity so spending time in nature is a good way to purge that and clear the mind. That’s how I reset.
James NgParticipantHi Annie,
You said you were a quiet person who turned more outgoing and now want to be more quiet? The saying your friends make up half of you are has some truth in it. You were quiet when you started hanging out with more outgoing friends. The result: you became more outgoing due to the contagious energy that surrounded you. So the reverse must be true. If you’re all over the place and wish to be more composed and quiet, perhaps you should surround yourself with similar people.
“I am convinced that different people awaken different beasts in you.”
Embrace and appreciate who you are.
Hope this helps,
JamesJames NgParticipantHi all. Here are two of my favorite inspirational songs,
1. “Over” by Epik High
*This song is about perseverance.
2. “Alive” by Edwin
*This song celebrates being alive.
