As a reply to Em that is looking to be mindful in the everyday life, I find that one simple approach has worked for me. Finding my natural joy has helped me being mindful with new perspectives in life. Now I want to share this experience and also find out if anyone else has a similar experience.

I have practiced buddhist meditation, read a lot of good books and finally found that what I was looking for was very basic.

I have simply learned to shift my center of focus and concentration from my head with its intellectual and analytical patterns, to my chest with the heart and lungs which is the true core of being and feeling alive. With a focus that stems out of the chest I feel relaxed, joyful, compassionate and really mindful of everything around me. A very basic shift, but at the same time very powerful.

And it does not demand a lot of meditation. When I notice my focus slipping away, getting caught in my own head or something outside of me, I just direct my focus in front of my chest and let it flow into the chest, heart and lungs. Back to the calm, joy, love and mindfulness.

Try it, shift your center of focus and find your natural joy!

Awesome, Nike. I used to feel that same thing – during metta meditation, I’d try sending love out and just open my heart space. Such a freeing feeling. I don’t do it much anymore, but just last week I started re-focusing on my body to get out of my head during meditation and walks. It’s a great thing. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely. Metta meditation is a great practice, and I think many more would find love for themselves and others by just getting back to the mindfulness that comes with connecting to the natural joy in the chest. My simple message to interested people around me is as described above. To shift center of focus from the head to the chest, by directing the focus in front of the chest and letting it flow into the chest, heart and lungs. Back to the calm, joy, love and mindfulness that is found in the true core of being and feeling alive. It puts a warm smile on your face, and I really think it can be done by everyone. For some, I have noticed, it it easier to shift focus if they close their eyes. And for those experienced in meditation, it often comes more natural to direct and keep the center of focus.

    Thank you

    Nike,

What a nice website! How great of you to create and share such a precious practice.

Just wanted to add that this practice is great for the health of the heart and body, as well. In Chinese Medicine, over-thinking and stress can scatter the qi. By focusing on a place in the body and being aware and conscious of the feelings and energy in that space, one allows the qi to flow more freely, specifically to this area. This is a great practice for those who are suffering from grief and heartache as it gives attention to those energies and by breathing into the areas, diffuses energies that could possibly get stuck.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

Very interesting with the qi aspect, and the physical health of the heart and body. I have a limited knowledge about qi, but now I am curious and will read more about it. Thank you Sandy!
