Hi There,
I have just found this site today!!!
I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by work for the last six months, and it’s time for something to change. I don’t want to change work, I am self employed with staff, but I do need more money to come in, that’s where my feeling of overwhelm comes from . That is my issue.
Does anyone else out there, have this issue at the moment and want/need to change.
If so, I am giving myself 1 week to change my thought processes, by doing 1 extra task each day, so that 1 week from today, I will have changed the routine that I currently have, and free up some headspace (ie overwhelm). At the moment, I get tied up in routine tasks, and I never seem to find the time to do the stuff that matters (I realise that that is probably just an excuse).
Soooo my plan is, that each day I will do 1 thing out of my comfort zone, and increase this by 1 each day.
Today, is my first day, although I am going to start at doing 2 things out of my comfort zone, just to kick start me off, & tomorrow it will be 3, the next day 4 and so on. I did a walk/jog plan like this once, and that seemed to work. I have calculated that if I continue like this, then by the end of tomorrow, in 1 weeks time, (9days) I will have done 54 things out of my comfort zone… that seems like a huge step, considering the feeling of overwhelm has not changed in 6 months, and I am only adding 1 thing extra to each day.
I am quite a shy person, who doesn’t like talking to people I don’t know, and who is always afraid of what others think of me… even though I know I am a good person, who will do anything for anyone. Some of the things I am going to push myself to do, may seem boring or basic to some, but for me, they will be huge.
Who wants to join me? Who else is feeling overwhelmed, or in need of a change?
Who wants to keep me motivated? I am going to log on here each day and record what has happened, to keep me on track.

February 3, 2014 at 9:58 am #50209NParticipantI, too, feel overwhelmed in my life. Many things seem wrong in my life and I also have obstacles to overcome. I understand that I am the only one responsible for my fate and it’s very difficult for me to decide what I need to focus on in life. I know I should only focus on one thing at a time, but so many things in my life need to improve I feel like I don’t know where to begin.
I feel exactly how you feel about being shy, I am very socially awkward and I have a lot of trouble talking to people. They always say that when making changes you should tell other people about it to help keep you accountable but I just feel like I can’t tell all these things to people. My life’s been a wreck for so long, I think people have gotten tired of hearing anything from me anymore and I am afraid to open up, much less tell people about problems I am trying to overcome.
I think you have a good idea, though I’m concerned once you are further along it will be a lot of things to do out of your comfort zone all at once. You’ll have 7 things to do on a day that are out of your comfort zone? Then again, I usually am paralysed by inaction because I overthink things, so maybe you’re right!
I’ll be happy to hear everything you are doing to improve yourself. Maybe it will help me to see how you are helping yourself.

It seems as my life goes on it’s gets more complicated and I have so much more to do which I have trouble keeping up with. I’m sure it’s of my own making trying to accomplish so much before I get to the point in my life where my age will affect what I can do. I’m turning 64 this spring. I was recently laid off from work this February. This is the second time in five years from the same company. So staying on the positive side of this I see this as an opportunity to explore other options for work. What ticked me off the most was I brought a house and a new car last year. Luckily my unemployment benefits are keeping me afloat for now. Also I entered into a new relationship with someone I truly love. We are doing pretty good considering the circumstances. We live together and are going to get married soon. So, yes a bit overwhelming. I try my best to stay positive which I’m pretty good at because it’s sorta built into my nature from my upbringing. I have my mother to thank for that. That’s what brought me to Tiny Buddha. I do blog in my spare time about career changes and jobs so what better time to put into practice my knowledge I have gather over the many years of my past experiences.
I was reading Deb’s post about change and it seemed like a lot to do, one new thing everyday. I find true change comes gradually over time and try and not push one’s self too much because then we put too pressure on ourselves and actually start to get the opposite result. At least for me that is. In the last four years I’ve change 360 degrees with help from therapy. What helped the most was I wanted to change and that’s the secret to true change and not paying lip service to it. Change is a constant in our lives but how we deal with is matters most. Well, I hope when people get overwhelmed they can stop and examine the root of the cause and then go on from there for solutions.March 29, 2014 at 6:37 am #53750johnnyParticipantNot sure if this will help much ,but i don’t think you are alone
work seems to getting more demanding all the time my own employer seems to raise targets all the time and to be honest some are totally bonkers
my work is mostly commission so I need to keep pushing myself to keep the money coming in
I have often wanted to be self employed so my efforts are for me – but not brave enough so at least you are your own boss -
