I’d love to discuss how we nourish our bodies from the Outside-In. I know there is a lot of concentration on Inside-Out beauty with proper eating, exercise and detox programs. I love all of that! But I also think there needs to be more awareness placed on the chemicals we tend to put on our skin (our largest organ) through our use of mainstream bath and beauty products. What natural kitchen-based or food-grade products do you use at home to increase your radiance? I am loving how my skin is responding to the Oil Cleansing method and use of essential oils. Anyone else got any tips?

I’m a big fan of using coconut oil on skin, in cooking, and also for “oil pulling” – where you swish it around your mouth for ten minutes or so and it pulls out bacteria and plaque. There’s now many studies that show it can significantly improve your dental health..

Does anyone else use oils on skin?

    Hi Erin and Joe.

This is a great topic and unfortunately not discussed often enough.

I have been using coconut oil on my skin for at least a year now, and I love it! I also dry brush my skin before showering or a bath, this has also improved the smoothness of my skin.

Joe, I have heard of oil pulling, and have tried it. Unfortunately I cannot seem to discipline myself long enough to stick with it. ๐Ÿ™

Other things I have tried are using sugar, coffee grinds, Epsom salts as an exfoliate.

Teas in the bathtub are also a great way to get the antioxidants into our skin.

I hope to see more conversation on this topic soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been slowly increasing the amount of beauty products I use from around the house ingredients lately so this is a great topic ๐Ÿ™‚

Like you guys I adore coconut oil, as a moisturiser, for oil pulling and as a deep conditioner for my hair. Once I stock up on some more I’m also trying out a recipe I found to

turn it into a proper body butter for easier use and storage.

I’ve also started using bicarb (baking) soda and water for shampoo and apple cider vinegar and water for conditioner. I’ve heard that this doesn’t work for quite a few people

but for me its been amazing. I have super fine hair that is prone to getting tangles and since using this its so much softer and more manageable, I’d never go back ๐Ÿ™‚

Great topic! Iโ€™m just starting to get into the DIY homemade product thing (not just for my face and body, but for cleaning around the house too). Iโ€™ve been using coconut oil as a leave-in for my hair since I was a kid and itโ€™s great. I also made my own facial scrub out of brown sugar and olive oil. My next goal is to make my own dry shampoo with baking soda, cornstarch, and cocoa powder. Who wouldnโ€™t love to smell like chocolate all day? ๐Ÿ˜‰
