    Dear Jules:

It is my experience that young children are naturally mindful. It is when a child experiences anxiety (ongoing fear) that he/ she dissociates, and starts living in a mindless, inattentive state.

I try to help my 3-year-old breathe when he is upset and it seems to help break the wall of emotions that he is struggling with. We also like to stop and name sounds that we hear in different places. I am hoping these are things that will carry on as he gets older and at least create a foundation for a mindful way of being.
