    One of the best books I’ve ever read is The Type-Z Guide to Success – Marc Allen.

    In there he explain the importance of having a mental picture of what would make you happy. How would be life 5 year from now… If you could live all your dreams…

    Write it down

    If you could do, be or have anything what would it be? Write all in present tense.

    Where are you living? Describe the perfect day…

    I just woke up in my beautiful apartment in … with my beautiful wife…

    Dear Jorge:

    In that book it is claimed that if you imagine what would make you happy, what your life will be like five years from now, then what you imagine is likely to come true?

    If so, how does the writer of the book, or otherwise according to your understanding, how does it work? What makes it come true?

    Five years from now, I want to travel, to have gained a TEFL qualification to teach English, and to carry on working as a freelance writer and illustrator as I travel. Five years from now I want to be in a position where I can move out of my parents home and carry on travelling and working. I also want to be the healthiest version of me so far, because I take my health more seriously now than I did when I was younger.

    But I am also aware that I won’t accomplish any of these things unless I try and work hard, and even then there is always the possibility that things will not work out.

    There have been times when I thought everything was going to work out exactly as I had imagined it but I have learned that sometimes nothing ever goes to plan. Sometimes it just didn’t work out at all, and I was left disappointed. I’m not knocking visualisation – I can’t help but visualise the desired outcome on something because it motivates me to take action but these days I have to allow myself the possibility that it won’t always work out.

    My questions to you, Jorge – where were you 5 years ago? What was life like for you? Did you imagine where you would be 5 years from then (now)? What were your hopes back then?

    Thank you for your answers Anita and Joe.

    First I will answer you Anita:

    I truly believe that Goals are important and even more it’s important having an ideal picture of what make us happy. A lot of people go around wondering why their life isn’t that good. They keep responding to external factors but never designing a life. The wish for more but do not really establish goals.
    The idea of the exercise is to have a clear picture of what is what would “really” make you happy. It can be anything. It should make YOU happy.

    I believe in the law of attraction and visualisation. But even if you don’t, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of having goals.

    Two books I recommend for a better understanding the law of attraction are:

    – Mind Power Into the 21st Century by John Kehoe
    – Working With The Law by Raymond Holliwell

    About what make something comes true…
    Everything starts with an IDEA, then you MUST DO something upon it. The be PERSISTENT on your plan. In order to be persistent you must BELIEVE you can achieve. Be Grateful and EXPECT it to happen. Keep on doing believing and expecting.

    I wish I had do the exercise 5 year ago. I did this last year and It really helps.

    It’s exiting to see you’ve got some plans for your life.

    I would recommend you to do this exercise writing in the present tense. Here an example.

    Today is the perfect day. I am so happy and grateful now that I have all my goals becoming true and my life has true meaning.
    The sun is shining. It’s summer and I can feel the sea breeze from my balcony. My House is … (describe every detail). I’ve just woke up and I am still in pijamas. I am so happy today my brothers are arriving in Perth, Australia and I can’t wait them to show them my beautiful home. On the table I see my book, now an Amazon Bestseller. My beautiful girlfriend sleeps. I am so proud. (Feel that feeling…)
    Later that day I drive the West Cost Drive to Perth in my beautiful AUDI A7. I feel the leather on my hand the smell of my new car is explendid. Through the window I can see the Indean Ocean while listing to “Peanut Butter Jelly”. VISUALIZE IT.

    Dear Jorge:

    My input on the Law of Attraction as you described it: I suppose there are elements in it that make sense: having stated goals, acting towards stated goals persistently. Absolutely makes sense, of course. And a person can hype themselves into believing these can be achieved and that can be helpful. How far though can a person who doesn’t believe (in achieving visualized goal) can ride of that wave of temporarily believing?

    All the people wondering around the face of the earth without goals, or with goals abandoned, don’t wonder aimlessly because they don’t have goals, or because they are too lazy to act toward their goals, but because

    1. Believing in what you don’t believe will take you only this far. A person can take that wave-of-temporarily-believing, get lucky and achieve a goal before the wave crashes. Most of the time though, the deep core beliefs will win. And the wave crashes.

    2. People are afraid. Again, if the person gets lucky, and achieves a goal before the wave of courage crashes, good. Most of the time, challenges in life, old and new trigger the old fear and the person crashes with the wave.

    There is no fast and easy way, unfortunately. While there are elements that make sense in the Law of Attraction, the individual, through insight, healing of old wounds, patience, mindfulness, correcting distorted core beliefs about self and life, over time, learns to navigate the ocean of life, learns to survive and thrive not only riding one wave, the Law-of-Attraction-Wave, but a wide variety of waves, which is what life is.
